about

Since their formation in 1992, the Kings have not only honed their signature, wickedly tight sound, they are the house band for the renowned Loser’s Lounge tribute series [www.loserslounge.com]. Loser’s Lounge honorees have included Prince, Burt Bacharach, David Bowie, Brian Wilson, Aretha Franklin, as well as their signature Battle Of The Band competitions, such as Blondie versus The Pretenders. The Loser's Lounge takes place every two months at Joe's Pub, The Public Theatre in New York City. In addition, the band has performed at Lincoln Center for the past ten years, bringing their disco show to the Midsummer Night Swing series.

The Kustard Kings and The Loser's Lounge have been called "a New York institution... a dynamo" by The Daily News, and "a back-up band extraordinaire," by The New York Times. The New York Press wrote "The Kings are an amazingly flexible conglomeration, good at everything."

The Kings’ members include guitarist/composer/arranger/founder David Terhune; keyboardist/arranger/Loser’s Lounge founder Joe McGinty (Psychedelic Furs, Ramones); bassist Jeremy Chatzky (session player for artists including Bruce Springsteen and They Might Be Giants, member of Ronnie Spector’s band); guitarist Julian Maile (Hedwig And The Angry Inch, Steely Dance) drummer Clem Waldmann (Blue Man Group) and percussionist Eddy Zweiback (Michael Cerveris). Relocated King, Kris Woolsey (Cardinal Woolsey, Fountains of Wayne), produced the two Kustard Kings CDs "Blam!" and "A Kustard Kristmas."

“A Kustard Kristmas,” from Confidential Recordings, brings New York’s finest instrumental pop-funk-lounge combo to the forefront, as they step out with their upbeat take on the holiday. The album features original tunes and some new twists on a few chestnuts. The New York Times called the album "a fun-rocking sleigh ride in which the original songs actually hold up alongside those of the Beach Boys (and) Raymond Scott." With other reviews boasting "certainly not your typical Christmas album - and that's a good thing," and "guaranteed to even make Scrooge tap his feet," you may still be listening to “A Kustard Kristmas” long after the holidays are over.
